hfgel-120-v organic bentonite as thickener, anti-settling agent and rheological agent is widely used in the field of alkyl resin coating, epoxy resin primer coating, anti-corrosive paint of pitch and so on. using in anti-corrosive paint of pitch, add 1.75-2% hfgel-120-v, the coating layer thickness can reach 657um without sagging, and the shear dilution index can reach 5-7 value initially, after store for a few days, the index still keeps in 4.2-5.8 value.
1, hfgel-120-v needs the activator for preforming net structure. the activator can be 95% alcohol and propylene carbonate. typical levels range between 30-50% activator based on organic bentonite weight. the pre-gel will be good for dispersion.
2, for thick slurry anticorrosive coating, the process can be used as follows:
a, pitch resin blend with solvent (60-65%)
b, add organic bentonite slowly and thoroughly mixed for 10-20 minutes.
c, add chemical activator and mixed for 10-20minutes, the activator can be 95% alcohol, typical levels range between 30-40% activator based on organic bentonite weight.
d, the pigments and fillers are then added and dispersed with high shear for a few minutes.
e, complete dilution and add appropriate solvent to the right viscosity.
the amount of hfgel-120-v rheology modifier required depends upon the type of organic system and the degree of thickening or other properties desired. addition levels are typically between 1.0%-2.0% by weight of the total system in thick slurry anticorrosive coating, the typical levels are between 1.5 and 2.5% based on total system weight.
